Adult Education

The Elko County School District Adult High School offers the Adult High School Diploma and GED Preparation Programs under Nevada State Statutes. The programs are free, individualized, and competency-based. Students are welcome to attend whenever the Adult High School is open. Students may enroll at any time during the school district's academic year. Other services available are English as a Second Language, Pre-GED instruction, and adult basic education in reading, writing, math, and spelling.

The Adult Learning Center is located at 1020 Elm Street. Click here for a map. The mailing address is Elko County Adult High School, P. O. Box 1012, Elko, NV, 89803. The instructor is Anna Bolin and the instructional assistant is Echo Skinner. You can contact them at 775-753-2233.

There is also an Adult Learning Center located in Wendover, Nevada. It is at the West Wendover Junior/Senior High School at 2055 Elko Avenue. Contact Gene Ghiggia at 775-664-3940 for more information.

Any person age 18 or older who has not graduated from high school and is not enrolled in a high school may begin Graduate Equivalency Diploma preparation. Pre-testing and tutoring are free. The GED test is given by Great Basin College monthly, and there is a charge for the test. To take the test you must go to Student Services in Berg Hall, present a photo identification, pre-register, and pre-pay $50.00.

Twenty and one-half credits are required in the following subjects:

English--4 credits

Math--3 credits

Science--2 credits

Computer Literacy--1/2 credit

Arts/Humanities/Occ/Voc--1 credit

American History--1 credit

American Government--1 credit

Health--1/2 credit

Electives--7 1/2 credits

Depending on previously earned credits, up to 11 credits may be waived by earning the following scores on the GED:

Monday--11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday--8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday--11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Thursday--8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Friday--8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
