The Elko County School District offers students another alternative for a high school education. Now home school students can get the best of both worlds: a quality public school education with the convenience and personal attention of home schooling.
Elko On-Line is an online distance education program sponsored by the Elko County School District and powered by Advanced Academics. The courses are delivered completely over the Internet with no books or software to buy so students in grades 7-12 can access their courses anywhere they have a computer connected to the web.
Registration will open August 15, 2011. You will need to check with the counselor at the high school in your attendance area for more details.

Do you have questions about the program? Check to see if your question is answered below. If not, call Susan at 775-753-5367.
Who teaches the online courses? |
| Elko On-Line courses are supported by full-time, certified teachers who offer help, support, and instruction via telephone, e-mail, and teacher-student chat anytime 24/7. Every student gets one-on-one attention when he or she needs it. |
What is the cost? |
| Elko On-Line offers exciting, interactive courses that embrace the power of the Internet with audio, video, and multimedia content that engages today's students. There is no cost for this program. |
What kind of diploma will I receive? |
| Online students receive an Elko County School District diploma just like their classroom counterparts. |
When is the deadline for registration? |
| Registration for Elko On-Line for the 2011-2012 school year will NOT be accepted after September 12, 2011. |
Can I take any class online? |
| There are some limits to the classes that are offered online. Students are required to attend individual school sites for testing. After school tutoring and guidance counseling services are available to students upon request. |
How many courses can I take? |
| You must be considered a full-time student. Seniors must be scheduled for at least 4 courses and students in grades 7-11 must be enrolled in 6 courses. This can be a combination of online, at school, and/or college courses. |
Can I participate in extra curricular activities? |
| Yes, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements. |
Is there a certain time I have to work on the course? |
| Yes, you must work on your courses 5 days a week. You can access your courses anywhere that you have Internet access. There are limitations on the start and end date of classes. You will receive a personalized schedule at your orientation. |
Where do I register? |
| You need to contact your attendance area counselor and provide a birth certificate and a record of immunization. |
Where do I take my mid-term and final? |
| You must be proctored for your mid-term and final in each course you take. Proctoring will be done at the Elko County School District Training Center located at 1105 Fairgrounds Road. |
Student progress should be monitored by the student and parent. Progress is monitored by Advanced Academics and the Elko County School District. Students may be removed from the Elko Online program and enrolled back in regular school if sufficient advancement on course work is not being made. This progress will be determined by the Elko County School District depending upon how many classes a student is enrolled in.
Even though the program is somewhat self-paced, there are date and time constraints. Students will receive their schedule at orientation as to the date limit for their classes. Students must work on their classes five days a week.
If, for any reason, a student should need an extension on a class (or classes), it is the student's responsibility to pay for the extension. Each class will cost $35 for a one week extension. This fee must be paid first before an extension will be given.
